Feeding the Elk

So yesterday morning Cheyenne and I had the opportunity to go up to the scab creek feedgrounds and help feed the elk. It was one of the coolest experiences of my life. There were about 700 head of elk on the feedground. They come right up to the wagon and eat off of it. They were up close and personal. There were some nontypical (freaks) bulls who's horns grew in weird ways. There was one that looked like a unicorn. His right horn grew normal but his left horn grew out of the center of his head. We realized when we saw him that we found his antler from last year. When we found it we knew it was a weird horn and then as soon as we saw that elk Cheyenne said that is the shed we found last year. We compared the shed to pictures and sure enough exactly the same. It was so neat. They feed with a team of horses and either a sleigh or wagon. Now that the snow is melting they feed with the wagon. The horses move alot faster than I would have expected and you definitely needed to be hangin on.

A couple of bulls up on the hill feeding

This was a really neat bull. Cheyenne thinks he must be old. His rack was big and his tines were really long but he was only a 4x5

A bull up close

Look at all those horns.

This is a shed that was just laying there. Right in the middle of the road. The feeders pick up all the sheds and turn them into the G&F and then they sell them up in Jackson. All of the money goes back into the program to feed the elk.

These are a very few of the pictures I took. We had something like 174 pictures, but this gives you a pretty good idea.
One more random pic. Jacob has this totallyt bizzarro rash and my mom wanted to see a pic so here it is. This is significantly improved from what he looked like this morning.

How fun! So do you know the people or can anyone do this? I'll have to show the pics to Casen. He loves elk. He thinks he is going to hunt them when he is older.
